Happy New Year! Welcome to 2018!
I’ve begun the process of looking back at my first year in business for lessons learned, what worked well, what do I want to do again, etc. Part of that effort includes me sorting through my color ways to see what was most popular (and I should keep dyeing!) and others that were “test” yarns as I played with color combinations or a few skeins that I didn’t personally like how they turned out.
Soooo….To start out the new year, I’ve added them to my Etsy store at $18 per skein. The sale yarns include fingering, DK and worsted weight yarns.
Have you started your online shopping? Are you looking for just the perfect yarn for your favorite fiber enthusiast? Or, if you’re honest, is that person you?! As part of Cyber week, I’ve put my entire Etsy store on sale so everything is 20% off. Plus, if you buy two or more skeins, you automatically get free shipping domestic shipping to the US.
On this dreary, rainy evening I’ve taken some much needed time to update my store with three colorways previously available at my Fiber Expo and DeWitt Band Booster Craft shows. All of these yarns are fingering weight yarns with 463 yards per 100g skein. Fiber content is 75% superwash merino wool and 25% nylon.
I also have these in DK weight yarn and will list those soon. If you want the DK before I list it, you can request a custom order at my Etsy store.
Starting from the left, we have Cake Sprinkles, which is a combination of pink, yellow, turquoise and purple speckles. Everytime I see this yarn, I think of sprinkles on a cake or a bowl of ice cream!
In the middle, is Sunkissed Berry, a combination of pinks and oranges with some purple.
Finally, on the right side, is my Dragonfly Dreams. This variegated yarn is made with the three primary colors and reminds me of how dragonfly wings shimmer in the sunshine during the summer. Check out my free cowl pattern on Ravelry.com called “A Day at the Pond“.
I’m preparing for my second Fiber Expo show and wanted to tease you with some new colorways I’ll be bringing!
My newest colorways are available next week at the Fall Fiber Expo in Ann Arbor, MI. Show details listed below. Listed top to bottom and left to right, choose from Cake Sprinkles, Let’s Roar (perfect for Detroit Lions fans), Sunkissed Berry, Cathedral, Garden Gnome Green and finally Burgundy.
I will also have plenty of my Woodland Camo yarn that I had at the spring Fiber Expo in both worsted and fingering weights.
New at the show this year are two of my recent designs kitted up with the color pattern and the yarn. This way you don’t have to get the pattern from Ravelry and print it out. You can take the kit home and get started right away!
My Expedition Shawl kit features the pattern and two skeins of yarn – Sugar Plum and Gray, which were used in my sample shawl that debuted in the spring. The second kit, In the Wood hat, features the pattern and a worsted weight skein of my Woodland Camo yarn perfect for you or your favorite outdoors person!
If you’d like to look at the designs ahead of time, here are the Ravelry links:

I wanted to let you know I ran a contest over on my Facebook page and on Instagram a couple of weeks ago to name a new colorway. Clare G. suggested “Cathedral” for this yarn and I think it’s a perfect fit! The name reminds me of stained glass windows.
The yarn base is a 75% Superwash Merino/25% Nylon fiber content. The DK yarn is 245 yards per 100grams. You can find it on my Etsy store page here.
Hey, true to my tagline of “Uniquely bold hand-dyed yarns”, I’ve added two new yarns to my Etsy store.
First we have “Cherry Bomb“, which is a dip-dyed yarn of cherry red and gray dyes. This would be great for folks that like Ohio State, Chicago Bulls, Boston Red Sox, etc.
Do you love bright colors? Ever use a highlighter? Well, this yarn is for you. I’m not sure if you can have a brighter, more vivid yarn.
As with all my yarns and bright colors, I take care to wash and rinse my yarn to ensure it won’t bleed.
For either yarn, I would suggest my Fenceline cowl pattern, it’s a very easy knit and great for social knitting where you don’t have to follow a pattern, line by line. It is easy to modify if you want a longer cowl that you can double up for extra warmth during cold months. I can’t wait to see what you make with the yarn! If you’re on Instagram, remember to use the hashtag #fencelinecowl to share your projects with others.
Here is my Fenceline Cowl pattern in progress using the Highlighter yarn.
Last August, I started design my first asymetrical shawl on our expedition to Stitches Midwest 2016. It’s a fairly large shape sized about 59 by 42 inches. It has very easy garter stitch sections alternating with a lace section based on the Elfin lace stitch in Barbara Walker’s stitch dictionaries.
The pattern has been test knit and is available for purchase here on Ravelry. The colors, Sugar Plum and Gray, used are my own dyed yarn available in my Etsy store.
The pattern is named Expedition for a few reasons. First, I was in a car riding to a great destitute and second, when it was done and blocked, the stripes looked like roads or highways. The pattern is easy to customize by stopping short or continuing on. Solids or tonal yarns work best to let the lace design show through.
I can’t wait to see what colorways folks use in their shawls.
I’ve been super busy building up my yarn inventory for the Spring Fiber Expo at Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds next weekend in Ann Arbor, MI. You can read more about it here. It will be my first time displaying my yarns in a fiber festival scenario. I am sharing a booth with a good friend of mine, MidMittenKnitter, who makes a variety of wonderful project bags. Her Etsy store is here.
I’ve developed some new colorways that include Life’s a Beach and Caribbean Rose. One of the hard things about dyeing yarn is that I want to knit with everything I dye! I guess if I did knitting all the time, I wouldn’t have time for yarn dyeing either. I do have to say that I still smile and giggle when I dye yarn. I love to see the dyes set on the yarn and watch the yarn go from bare “sheep” color to a beautifully colored skein of yarn.
Here is a snapshot of my inventory in my store.
If you don’t see exactly what you’d like, then contact me or start a conversation on Etsy and we’ll talk about a custom order.
I’ve been doing an inventory of my colorways and have a few skeins in my Etsy store which I consider, “one of a kind” that I can’t repeat since they were skeins when I was learning certain dye techniques. Quantities are very limited and will be discounted until they are gone!
The next item, called Cayman Islands. I love the turquoise colors along with undertones of green, pink and violet. I have two of these skeins and they are also blend of Superwash Merino and Nylon.
Finally, I have my Peppermint Speckles on sale. This yarn is on a twisted sock yarn base which gives great stitch definition. It was very fun to create!
I took the last month off from yarn dyeing to rest after a hard push preparing for a craft show in November. Now, I’m starting to think about new color ways for the winter and spring seasons.
In the meantime, I wanted to announce my first sale in my Etsy store! You save 25% off anything in the inventory and no coupon code is needed. The sale runs from today through December 20th at 11:59pm EST.
Maybe you want to grab some yarn to make a last minute gift like a cowl, hat or maybe a set of fingerless mitts for a loved-one. Enjoy browsing the store and let me know if there’s a particular color you are looking for.
